The records were deposited in Aug 1973 by Rev. D.W.E.May, in Feb 1988 by Rev. D.I. Johnson, in Dec 1990 by David Taylor, Honorary Circuit Archivist and in 1998 (accession numbers 1998/13 and 1998/33) by Rev. D.P.C. Smith, Circuit Superintendent.

Administrative / biographical background:

The first Wesleyan Sunday school and preaching room in Hale opened in 1866 in Peel Street (later Peel Road). New premises, including a chapel, were opened in 1878 in Oak Road (formerly Henry Street). A new chapel was built in 1897 and a new Sunday school in 1912. These Hale Road premises were extended in 1971 as part of the general reorganisation of the Altrincham Circuit which had begun in 1966. The church initially belonged to Altrincham Wesleyan Circuit and is now in the successor Altrincham Methodist Circuit.
