This volume was deposited in August 1956 by Miss Marvin of Aislaby. The Henrietta was built in Whitby, the principal owner and first master being Nicholas Piper of Pickering. She is best-known as the whaler which was the first command of Captain William Scoresby, Senior. He shipped aboard her in 1785 (under the command of Captain Crispin Bean), became spectioneer in 1787 and was appointed Master in 1791 until 1792, by which time he had made his reputation and had had several record-breaking voyages. |
