Administrative / biographical background:

This collection was donated to the Museum by a member of the Smales family in May 1968. It was transferred to the library and archives in June 1981.

 

The Midsummer Blossom was built in Whitby in 1766. By 1787 her owners were William Atty, Henry Lacy and John Lacey.
