9 July : John Ham. Failure of Robert Grant to settle debt to P. Francis.

 

15 July : Henry Ramus. Despatch of money and elephants [for timber felling], which might arouse opposition of the country people.

 

21 July : J.L. Fix at Serampore. About payments to Richard Goodlad [of Rungpoor] for sale of cloths.

 

[31 July]: [George] Shee. Offering him a 'remittance' by a Danish ship. Because of the peace Ducarel is not to sail on a Danish ship but await an English one.

 

9 August : Ensign James McLean. Unable to help him over his appearance before a court martial on a charge connected with auditing accounts.

 

16 August, 6 Sept. : Colonel Tolley. Method of remitting money to London by a Danish ship through J.L. Fix's agency.

 

18 August : J.L. Fix. Same matter and insurance of the money.

 

20 August : [Humphrey] Howarth. Similar matter, and clearing up Flor's estate. Deplores party intrigues in the Company and reports the Company had applied to Parliament to borrow £1,500,000. Cullan obliged to relinquish the Gourah Mehal.

 

5 Sept. : H. Ramus. Misuse of the elephants and their supplies sent to him.

 

7 Sept. : [H.] Howarth. Urgent order to advance money for carriage of timber of the estate of his Sircah or it will be delayed a year.

 

12 Sept. : W.B. Smith. Demanding debt due to Flor's estate.

 

28 Sept. :- Blaquier. Appointing him his banker until his own forthcoming arrival in Calcutta.

 

6 Oct. : J.L. Fix. Anxious to know by what ships he and Goodlad could remit money, and urges settlement of estate of late A.B. Goodlad.

 

[The last letter dated at Burdwan is 21 October; the next letter of November is dated from Calcutta.

 

9 Nov. : [J.] Shore at Patna. Has seen Hastings on behalf of Redfearn, and has suggested a Collectorship in Behar to supervise the clearance and cultivation of the frontier hills. Requests Shore to put it to the Board.

 

15 Nov. : Edward Tiretta. Settlement of debt to his banyan, Birjemohun Dutt.

 

16 Nov. : George Berner. Request for settlement of debts.

 

21 Nov. : C.F. Brix. Settlement of A.B. Goodlad's estate.

 

21 Nov. : William Douglas. Arrangements for his co-trustee, Douglas, to administer Harwood's family trust and look after his family in India.

 

22 Nov. : J.L. Fix. Settlement of accounts with Goodlad for cloth. Collection of debt from Damoodes Sing, a Zemindar.

 

15 Nov. : William Pye. Bill for household silver plate sold to him.

30 Nov. : Jonathan Duncan. Enclosing money order for use of Mirza Allum Beg, Mirza Caim Beg and Mirza Daim Beg.

 

30 Nov. : B. Grindall, W. Douglas, H. Howarth. Enclosing money orders for Mirza family and making arrangements for regular payments through his attornies in India.

 

4 Dec. : The Bengal Bank. Naming his attornies as John Shore, George Shee, Thomas Vowler Short, and John Baptist Esteve.

 

[Similar letters sent to other correspondents. In December, January and February he made many final payments in settlement of accounts, totalling about 7,600 current rupees; a further 11,000 current rupees were paid to his account with J.L. Fix].
