Title: Probate (P.C.C.) of will, 24 Sept. 1667, of Harbert Morley of Glynde, esq.
Description:

(i). Desires to be buried in the chancel of Glynde church among his ancestors.

 

(ii). Devises to son Robert and his heirs his manors of Glynde and Bosses and lands in Glynde, Ringmer and South Malling provided that he shall confirm grants for release of rents and services due to the manor of Glynde to Apsley Newton, esq., for lands in the Plashet in Ringmer, and to James Plumer, gent., for lands in Wellingham in Ringmer and to Abraham Cooper for lands in Glynde but if he does not do this at age 21 then testator devises the field called Creeksden in Ringmer and Stubberlands in Glynde to be sold by his executors and £20 to be paid to Newton, £40 to Plumer and £50 to Cooper.

 

(iii). Devises to son Robert the manors of Beddingham and Combe, lands called Widehams and the manor of Preston Beckhelwyn.

 

(iv). Recites legacies in the will of testator's mother, Susanna, to his sister Susanna Morley and the children of Sir John Fagge, bart., out of the farm of Kingston Bowsey. Sir John Fagge, bt., and sister Susanna Morley, exors. of Susanna Morley, widow, dec'd., are to take the profits until these legacies are paid and afterwards the farm is to go to son William Morley to whom are devised all testator's freehold lands in Framfield and Buxted and lands called Bowlays in HellinGLY/or Arlington, which descended to him on the death of his sister Margaret Morley.

 

(v). Bequeaths £1,000 to son William Morley at age 21 and £1,500 to daughter Anne Morley to be paid at age 21 or marriage.

 

(vi). Bequeaths £50 to his sister-in-law Elizabeth Masham; £5 to Zachary Smith, late minister of Glynde; £3 to Jonathan Hancock; £5 each to his cousins Ann Dober and Margaret Safford; 40s. to the poor of the parishes of Glynde, Beddingham, Framfield and Mayfield; £5 each to servants Edward Roberts and Anne Tompkin; £3 to sister's maid Mary Towner; £3 to servant Thomas Fowle; 40s. to servant John Jarvis and 20s. each to all his other servants.

 

(vii). Declares that he has found in an account presented to him by his cousin, Harbert Board, dec'd., that he owed him £280 although Board never mentioned this. His executors are to pay £280 to George Board within 3 years.

 

(viii). Bequeaths £20 to the poor to be disposed as executors think fit.

 

(ix). Son Robert Morley to have a nest of 11 silver tumblers, 2 silver candle-sticks, 1 silver basin and 1 silver plate with a handle to it; son William Morley to have his biggest silver tankard; daughter Anne to have 1 silver candle cup and a small silver tankard, which was his sister Margaret's; all his other personal estate to be used to pay debts and legacies.

 

(x). Appoints Sir John Fagge, bt., and his sister Susanna Morley executors and gives them £10, and empowers them to sell his manors of Great Baynden and farms called Great Baynden, Little Baynden, Gilhop, Winters and Carleham to pay legacies. Exors. are to pay £30 yearly to the maintenance of daughter Anne till she receives her legacy.
