The collection contains three major classes, minute Books 2/HO/1-A2 (seventy-six volumes), ledger books 2/HO/B1-E1 (sixty-one volumes) and letter books 2/HO/F2-F29 (twenty-eight volumes). There are also a number of miscellaneous volumes though no topic is covered by them for a span of more than forty years.

Established in 1778, the Isle of Wight House of Industry was only the second such large institution intended to serve the needs of a wide area and was modelled on the House of Industry at Nacton, Suffolk, founded in 1758.
