Boots Scribbling Diary kept by Clifford Gothard; now resident in Birmingham during the week; still many references to shooting and feretting at Bretby. Lectures at Birmingham are now held partly at the Technical College; various boiler and engine trials; now driving a "Perry" motor car; appears to be working on a Davy Paxman steam engine at power station; 13 May, taking charge of Guild of Undergraduates voting station for election of new committee; 31 May, meeting of Guild of Undergraduates, controversy between Edmund Street and Bournbrook; final exams, June; camp in June after exams; 3 July, announcement of receiving degree - 6 July signs degree register; 17 July, floods in Burton and other storm damage; 18 October, applied for commission in R.A.F. but turned down at interview, 31 December, because too heavy for flying, (joined Artists Rifles 3 January, 1916: for rest of military career see autobiographical notes).
