Inquisition taken in the town of Salop on 24 November 13 Elizabeth before Thomas Corbett, Esq., Richard ap Powell and Richard Dicking, gent Commissioners of the Queen, on oaths of persons named, to inquire into the property in the County of Salop of the Queen concealed and unjustly detained.on 9 November 1 Edward VI (1547) and from time beyond the memory of man there was a chapel at Longley or Langley called Langley Chappell and a cemetery called the Chappell yard (½a) adjoining and belonging to the said chapel. The jurors say the tithes of corn &c. and oblations on 9 Nov. & beyond memory ought to be paid from and on half Langley Park, being the West part of the park in the parish of Acton Burnell, and from all lands and tenements in the townships of Ruccley, Whettalls and Causey and ought to belong to the chapel. They say the chapel, cemetery and tithes and oblations were concealed and detained from Edward VI, Philip & Mary, and Elizabeth, from Easter 2 Edward VI (1548) until now, against the Act of 4 November 1 Edw VI(1547) for suppressing chantries etc. They say Thomas Lee late of Langley, deceased, occupied and held the chapel and yard and profits and tithes and detained them from Easter 2 Edward VI until his, T.L.'s death on 18 October 3 Elizabeth (1561), and that Jane Moreton now wife of Richard Moreton of Haughton is executorix of the will of Thomas Lee and one of the administrators, and she assured the administration of the goods of the said testator, and is to render ?account of all the profits and of all the said tithes received by Thomas Lee. They say that Richard Lee of Langley had and received and converted to his use all profits of the said chapel, and all the tithes and oblations and profits, and all the tithes and oblations and profits from 18 October 3 Elizabeth until now. They say the chapel and cemetery are worth per annum in all issues 2d and that all the tithes etc. are worth p.a. 5/- 5/ They say that the present Rector of Acton Burnell and all Rectors of A.B. beyond memory have baptised and ought to baptise all infants born in Langley, Ruccley, Whettalles and Causey, charging ½d a baptism, and have buried and ought to bury all persons dying in Langley, Ruckley, Whettalls and Causey, taking a mortuary, and have administered all rites except Holy Communion.
