Title: Photographs of Travellers
Description:

The following collection comprises 199 black and white photographic prints, originally kept with the Birmingham City Council Estates Department. The photos from 1970s were taken internally by other departments (i.e. Photographic Sections of the Public Works or City Engineer's Department). In the case of the earlier ones dated c1930s-1950s the provenance is unknown, possibly taken by Council departments or private / commercial photographers commissioned by the local authority. The majority were taken in the 1930s and the 1970s and appear to have been taken to have been used by the department to visual evidence of travellers sites in the city, some of which were located in inner city districts and slum clearance and redevelopment areas. The following item list reflects the order of the collection as it was boxed following transfer from the Council offices where they were previously kept.
