Administrative / biographical background:

W C Gibson and Co, manufacturer of enamelled sinks and firebricks at Scotswood, Newcastle was founded in 1838. In January 1895 this company was wound up and a new one formed, following the death of the founder, William Colville Gibson, W C Gibson and Co Ltd. N C Cookson was the first Chairman. In 1902 M J Adams acquired shares in the Company and became the new Chairman and Managing Director.

 

Although the Adams family took over the business, they continued to run it separately until 1927 when the Company was fully incorporated into Adamsez Ltd.
