Administrative / biographical background:

Formed in November 1885, but coupled with the Chester District Association until 1900, when it became a separate district allied to the national Football Association (F.A.). Organises several cup competitions for local affiliated clubs, including : the Wirral Challenge Cup (now the Wirral Senior Cup, introduced in 1886); and the Wirral Amateur Cup (1893); and the Wirral Minor Cup (1904). A short history of the Association is given in the Centenary booklet (YF /6). The records were deposited by the Honorary Assistant Secretary, Mr. F.G. Robinson, in August 1986.
