Administrative / biographical background:

The Caleb Bailey (later changed to Bailey in the nineteenth century) Charity was founded in c.1750 by Caleb Baily of Berwick Bassett. Under the terms of his will, trustees were charged with the yearly payment of charitable donations to persons of Presbyterian, Baptist or Independent denomination who were either preaching or studying to preach. The charity was supported by its estates in the parish of North Bradley which were leased out to bring in an annual revenue.
