Administrative / biographical background: |
William Drake, to whom the ownership of Boyland Hall had descended from the Garney family, left two daughters as co-heiresses of his estate. Rachel Ives Drake married George, 3rd Baron Boston in 1801, whilst Emily Ives Drake married his younger brother, Rear Admiral Frederick Paul Irby (1779-1844) in 1803. After his wife's death in 1806, Frederick Paul Irby married Frances Wright. The eldest son of Frederick and Emily, Frederick William Irby (1806-1877) married Isabella Bruce and inherited Boyland Hall. However, the couple had no issue and the ownership of the Hall passed to Frederick Arthur Irby, a grandson of Frederick Paul Irby by his second marriage. |
