Administrative / biographical background:

Greatfield High School opened in 1957 as the embodiment of the tripartite system of education. It comprised three halls: Newton Hall (a Technical High School), Elizabethan Hall (Secondary Modern) and Shakespeare Hall (Grammar School). Due to rising pupil numbers Newton Hall became a joint Technical/Grammar School and Shakespeare Hall, a second secondary modern school. In 1969 reorganisational changes amalgamated Newton and Elizabethan Hall, thus creating Greatfield High School. Shakespeare Hall became a Junior High School. In 1988 the school closed due again to educational reorganisation.
