Administrative / biographical background:

Introduction

The firm, successively under the names of Crawter and Sons, Crawter and Moore, Crawter and Death and now Crawter and Latta, of 100 Turners Hill, Cheshunt, has been employed not only by individual clients for whom it acted as surveyor, valuer, agent, etc., but also members of the firm have from time to time been appointed tithe apportioners, vestry clerks and to other official positions. Consequently the documents in this collection, many of which are necessarily rough drafts and even rougher memoranda, cover a wide field of local activity. The firm also acted as surveyors to sundry manors in Hertfordshire and neighbouring counties.
