Reference: SC 8/338/E1242
Description:
Petitioners: Constance de Bearn.
Name(s): de Bearn, Constance
Addressees: King.
Nature of request: Bearn requests that the king will grant a commission to the abbot of St John of the Castle, or the prevot of St Sever, and give to one of them the power to receive the attorney general that she wishes to make to plead and answer in her place in the king's court or any other court of England where she has business.
Nature of endorsement: She should sue before the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer and make a fine, and she should have her request for three years.
Places mentioned: Aire diocese, [Gascony, France]; St Sever, [Gascony, France].
People mentioned: Abbot of St John of the Castle; Prevot of St Sever.
Note: The petition is dated to 1305-1306 as this petition seems to be part of an original file of Gascon petitions - SC 8/338/E1217-SC 8/338/E1260 - for which SC 8/338/E1228 seems to have been the cover petition. The dating of this group of documents is arrived at by the possibility of more closely dating several of the petitions in this group, and these are noted when necessary. In addition, almost all of the petitions bear the old PRO references to Diplomatic Documents 1542 and 1548.
Date: [1305-1306]
