Details of SC 8/334/E1126
Reference: SC 8/334/E1126
Description:
Petitioners: Hugh de Wetherby.
Name(s): de Wetherby, Hugh
Addressees: King and council.
Nature of request: Wetherby shows that his father leased land in Wetherby to the Templars of Wetherby to find a chaplain to sing for his allowance, and for the souls of Wetherby's ancestors, but after the Templars were suppressed the land came into the hand of Lady Percy, and she does not wish to find the chaplain as the Templars used to do, so that the service is a long time in arrears.
Nature of endorsement: He should distrain for it if he considers it expedient.
Places mentioned: Wetherby, [West Riding of Yorkshire].
People mentioned: Jordan de Wetherby, father of the petitioner; Templars of Wetherby; [Agnes de Percy], Lady Percy.
Note: The petition is dated to c. 1314 as it is clearly not that long after the suppression of the Templars, and the petition makes mention of Lady Percy and is therefore after her husband's death in October 1314 (Cf. dating of SC 8/334/E1150).
Date: [c. 1314]
