Note: Inquisition and return: Date to be returned: 23.6.1527. The Sheriffs had replied to an earlier writ that John Brown was not found in their bailiwick when they received a prior writ at the suit of Margaret Bruges, widow, formerly the wife and executrix of Edmund Bruges, citizen and draper of London, against John Brown. They held an inquisition on 26.3.1527 which established that John Brown was then seized in demesne of a tenement situated in a certain lane called St Mary Hill Lane in which John Rycroft, esquire, now lives; another tenement in the same lane and parish, now vacant; another tenement situated in Love Lane in the same parish, with an adjacent garden, which John Richardson now occupies; another tenement in Love Lane, now in the tenure of Philip Attarman; another tenement situated there now in the tenure of William Warward; another tenement situated there in the tenure of Christopher Thomson; another tenement situated there now in the tenure of William Awdwyn; another tenement situated there in the tenure of William Necton; another tenement there in the tenure of William Hall; another tenement situated there in the tenure of Richard Crayforth; another tenement situated there in the tenure of Richard None, and a cellar under the same tenement now in the tenure of Alice Mongham, widow. Altogether the property is worth £11 13s. 4d a year. Because the recognisance made to William Bromewell was made before that to Edmund Bruges the property is to be handed over to Bromewell.
