Description:
Petitioners: William Bramley, Abbot of Rievaulx.
Name(s): Bramley, William
Addressees: John, Archbishop of York, Chancellor.
Occupation: Abbot of Rievaulx
Nature of request: Bramley requests remedy because whereas it was announced at the Parliament at Leicester by William, abbot of Beaulieu that Bramley had been restored as abbot of Rievaulx, but determined at the same Parliament that neither he nor Burton, who usurped possession of the abbey, should occupy the same while their case was pending in the Court of Rome, yet on 22 March last Bramley, on his way to York, had stopped outside Doncaster at sunset when Burton and his armed companions would have killed him if Greystoke had not intervened, and Burton then entered into Rievaulx abbey, contrary to the decision made in parliament.

People mentioned: John [Kemp], Archbishop of York, Chancellor; William, Abbot of Beaulieu; Henry Burton; [John de Greystoke], Baron de Graystok (Greystoke).
