According to ye Newest and Most Exact Observations By Herman Moll Geographer'; 'To Wil. Paterson Esq; This Map of the West-Indies & c. is most Humbly Dedicated ...': covering the area between Bermuda in the north-east, the River Marowijne (or Maroni; now in Suriname and French Guiana) in the south-east, and Acapulco (now in Mexico) in the west; the limits of [British possessions] are marked in pink, [French possessions] in blue, [Spanish possessions] in yellow and [Dutch possessions] in green. Various reference notes. Dedication in a decorative cartouche, with a coat of arms. Scale: 1 inch to about 25 leagues (scale bars also marked in Dutch and Spanish miles). Compass indicator. Printed for John Bowles and Thomas Bowles. Insets: (i) View of Mexico City, with a reference table to buildings. (ii) Maps of the harbours at Saint Augustine (in Florida), Vera Cruz (now in Mexico), Havana (in Cuba), 'Porto Bella' [?Portobelo, now in Panama] and Cartagena (now in Colombia).

The dedicatee is probably William Paterson, co-founder of the Bank of England, who accompanied an expedition to DariƩn (now in Panama) in 1698 and died in 1719; presumably the map was originally produced in or before that year. Reinhartz suggests a date of 1715.
