Description:

South-West Asia; Egypt. 'Asia 1:1,000,000': map comprising six joined sheets: I 36 'Beirut', I 37 'Esh Sham (Damascus)', I 38 'Baghdad', [H 36 'Cairo'], [H 37 'El Djauf' (i.e. Al Jawf)], and [H 38 'Basra'], together covering the area between Cyprus in the north-west, Basra (now in Iraq) in the east, and El Minya in the south-west. Reference tables; index to neighbouring sheets. Sides not parallel because of the projection. Compiled at the Royal Geographical Society under the direction of the Geographical Section, General Staff; drawn and printed at the War Office, 1916-1918; sheet H 36 revised to August 1918. Coloured MS additions coloured show French, British and international spheres of influence; a provisional boundary between British and French territory; and an independent Arab state within the French and British spheres; [the boundaries depicted reflect the Sykes-Picot Agreement, 9 May 1916].
