Board of Stamps: Legacy Duty Office and successors: Specimens of Death Duty Account
|Title:||Board of Stamps: Legacy Duty Office and successors: Specimens of Death Duty Account|
Specimens of death duty accounts of the Legacy Duty Office and its successors.
For about five years after the introduction of legacy duty under the Legacy Duty Act 1796, the accounts are in a variety of forms. Thereafter standard forms were introduced, subdividing the estate under broad headings. Although the records are listed chronologically according to the date of death, the date of opening is calculated from a notional closure of the account three years after it was opened.
