Description:

  • Folio 224-225.
  • Petition of Simon Metcalfe requesting the restitution of his cattle and the prosecution of those responsible for removing, selling and receiving them.
  • The cattle were taken from his estate in November 1777 whilst in the care of Jesse Weldaw at Bay d'la Macquean on the east side of Lake Champlain. Metcalfe stated that William Hay, formerly living near Valcour, was responsible with the help of named Brady, formerly from near Crown Point. Also involved were two butchers; Kelly of Saint Therese and Monarch of the Quebec suburbs of Montreal.
