Description:
Petitioners: Robert de Mordon, chaplain of the Grene of Ely; Nicholas de Arnyngton (Arrington), chaplain of the Grene of Ely; Martin de Mendham, chaplain of the Grene of Ely; Thomas de Essex, chaplain of the Grene of Ely.

Nature of request: The chaplains request remedy concerning the 20 marks that they were accustomed to receive from the manors of Totteridge and Bramford for their sustenance as chaplains of the perpetual chantry established by Bishop Northwold. Although Henry III confirmed their charter so that they could receive the money during vacancies the sum was withheld from them during the last vacancy by the prior and convent of Ely.
Nature of endorsement: They should have a writ founded upon their charter to the prior and convent to pay them the arrears from the time that they had the vacancy, they are further to sue a process by sicut alias and attachment.

Note: The petition can possibly be dated to 1337 for the petitioners received a confirmation of their charter on 2 June 1337, and this may have been to provide additional security following the problems they were experiencing during vacancies (CPR 1334-8, pp.455-6). This is further confirmed by internal evidence which refers to the death of Bishop Hotham of Ely who died on 14 January 1337.
