Charles Stuart [deputy consul at Veere] [to Trevor]: he has had confirmation that embarkation is taking place in French ports. Ships have sailed from Ostend, Nieuwpoort and Dunkirk to rendezvous at Calais. He attempted unsuccessfully to pass the news to Admiral Vernon. He then received a report that this whole fleet had been destroyed by the English. Dated at Middelburg. ff. 11, 12
