Extract of a letter from M. Puech, the French commissary to Mr. [Adam] Cardonnel: he has asked M. de Chamillard [French minister of war] to have the [English] prisoners brought to Bayonne while awaiting replies to Marlborough from England, Vienna and Rome. Special case of M. Caulfield. He thanks him for the extension of M. de Marnais' permit of leave. The exchange will affect 900 officers and 11,000-12,000 men. ff. 645, 646
