The files deal mainly with questions arising from the administration of the Friendly Societies Acts 1875 and 1896 and related legislation governing building societies, friendly societies, industrial and provident societies, industrial assurance societies, savings banks, trade unions and other miscellaneous societies. They contain correspondence, circulated papers, consultation documents, bill and act papers, legal opinions, and committee and commission papers. Some files contain specific case notes as well as decisions of the Chief Registrar and Industrial Assurance Commissioner in relation to the administration of the various acts governing the organisations registered with, and supervised by, the Registry of Friendly Societies.
