Folio 207: Transcript of judicial papers relating to the affair of Capt. Stepney R.N., and his imprisonment for having given sanctuary on board his ship to fugitive slaves. Cf. S.P.89/47, ff.7, 31-45. The 18 witnesses include Francis Warden (ff.227-228), the English Master-Shipwright to the Crown of Portugal, whose wife was the niece of Capt. Stepney.
