Description:

Folio 100v. Blathwayt to Stepney. Acknowledges recent letters and particularly the 'packets' of July 4 and 8. Observes that the king finds that Paget 'has no great reserves in reference to Mr Heemskerke who in his letters will hardly own any misunderstanding between them'. The King, well satisfied with Stepney's conduct towards the Vienna court in relation to the affairs in Hungary, thinks fit that, in case the Emperor entrusts him with any commission, he is to do what is desired of him without any further orders from his sovereign. But Blathwayt warns him not to incur Paget's jealousy and displeasure. - Regarding Stepney's proceedings connected with the accession of Saxony to the Grand alliance, he is, in accordance with his instructions, to advance it as much as he can, 'without shewing any forwardness which the ministers would be apt to make ill use of by loading his Ma[jes]ty and the States with greater engagements than are proper for them'. Encloses a memorandum on behalf of colonel Conn[or] O'Rourke, now prisoner with his brother major Michael O'Rourke in the castle of Eszeck.
