This is an artificial accumulation created by the Public Record Office from the 1970s onwards to cater for photographic material, mostly prints and negatives, extracted from records following transfer to the Office, primarily as a preservation and/or security measure.

Each series within CN contains photographic extracts from series within a single departmental code.
