Common Lodging Houses.

Letter from the Metropolitan Police Office concerning the filthy state of a lodging house at 12 Vine Yards, St. Olave's, which is suffering from overcrowding and has had 5 cases of typhus fever. Enclosed are copies of reports from James J Mackintosh, St Olave's Union House, Robert Slee, Clerk to the Commissioners of Paving and Improvements, Southwark [Surrey] and Inspector Squire of M Division, Metropolitan Police. The property seems not have been included in the list of Common Lodging Houses submitted by M Division, and is therefore not subject to the Common Lodging House Act, 1851.
