Sixteen letters relating to the use of a wing of Wakefield Gaol for pauper lunatics. A letter from RWS Lutwidge, Secretary of the Lunacy Commission, relating to the proposition to appropriate one wing of the new gaol at Wakefield for the use of the West Riding of Yorkshire for the confinement of pauper lunatics; a letter from Lutwidge transmitting a report from JW Mylne and JR Hume, Commissioners in Lunacy relating to the wing of Wakefield Gaol proposed for the reception of chronic pauper lunatics; a letter from Benjamin Dison, Clerk of the Visiting Justices at Wakefield, transmitting a resolution passed at a meeting of the Visiting Justices of the West Riding Lunatic Asylum regarding the appropriation of one wing of the new prison; a report from Captain Williams at Kensington regarding the temporary confinement of lunatics at Wakefield Prison during the alteration of the county asylum; two letters from Lieutenant Colonel J Jebb relating to the proposal to rent part of the new prison at Wakefield for the reception of convicts under sentence of transportation; a report from Frederic Hill on the prisoners in Wakefield Gaol; a letter from Hill transmitting a report from the prison's medical officer concerning the health of the prisoners, included is a list of the convicts of the sick list; drafts of three letters from GG [George Grey] responding to Hill's letters; a letter from Hill explaining the reasons for an alteration in the dietary plan for the Wakefield Prison, which will benefit the health of the prisoners and save £8 a year; a letter from Hill reporting on the condition of the convicts undergoing probationary confinement in Wakefield Prison and offering suggestions for the improvement of the present system of treatment; a memorandum by Colonel J Jebb on F Hill's letter concerning the health and diet of prisoners; a report from William Baly, Medical Superintendant at Millbank Prison detailing the condition of nine prisons, who were removed to Wakefield prison from Millbank.
