The Board of Trade developed various temporary organisations and functions during and just after the Second World War.

The board was reponsible for administering the utility schemes introduced from September 1941 onwards for furniture, cloth, clothing, footwear and bedding.

Wartime departments set up under the board included the Post-War Commodity Policy and Relief Department, Supplies to Liberated Areas Division, German Division, Wool Control and Trading with the Enemy and Administration of Enemy Property Departments.
