Description:

Italy: Rome. 'Nuova Pianta di Roma data in Luce da Giambattista Nolli L'Anno M DCC XLVIII', made up in seventeen sheets as follows. (1) Title page and notice to readers (the latter includes a table of the fourteen wards of the city). (2-5) Numerical and alphabetical reference tables to streets, squares, principal buildings etc, ward by ward. (6-17) Detailed town plan. Scale: 7.7 cm to 1,000 palmi Romani d'architettura. Compass star. Decorative border with emblems of the wards. Below the map are scenes depicting classical figures, putti with cartographic instruments, and a papal coronation, probably that of Benedict XIV, to whom the plan is dedicated. Engraved by Rocco and Stefano Pozzi, Pietro Campana and Carlo Nolli.
