Description:

1 item (originally enclosed in Lord Charles Montagu's [despatch] number 9, 19 April 1769) extracted from CO 5/392 (folio 21). 'Plan of the Catawba and Broad Rivers with their Waters and the Proposed Boundary Lines Between North & South Carolina, with the Latitude as observed in Different Stations': map (of territory now in the United States of America), also showing place names, the site of Tryon County court house, a fort, the Blue Ridge mountains (in relief), and lands held by the Catawba and Cherokee nations. Scale: 1 inch to 4 miles. Compass indicator. The map was produced to illustrate the Report of a Committee of the Council of South Carolina concerning the boundary with North Carolina; a copy of this report was also enclosed in Montagu's despatch and remains at the parent reference.
