Description:

Medical and surgical journal of the Ann and Amelia convict ship for 22 July 1824 to 5 January 1825 by James Lawrence, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed in a passage from England to Ireland and from Ireland to New South Wales.

Folios 1-3: Michael Fallon, aged 21, soldier; disease or hurt, severe cough with copious gross expectoration and slight pain in the breast. Put on sick list, 11 September 1824. Discharged 1 October 1824 to duty.

Folio 3: Thomas Ryan, aged 22, prisoner; disease or hurt, fixed pain in the abdomen. Put on sick list, 11 September 1824. Discharged 17 September 1824.

Folios 3-4: Cornelius Connell, aged 60, prisoner; disease or hurt, cough and severe pain under the right breast. Put on sick list, 17 September 1824. Discharged 22 September 1824.

Folios 4-5: Patrick Noonan, aged 30; disease or hurt, troublesome cough, headache and pain of breast. Put on sick list, 17 September 1824. Discharged 1 October 1824.

Folios 5-6: Hugh Cash, aged 40, prisoner; disease or hurt, complains of great dyspnea. Put on sick list, 26 September 1824. Discharged 30 September 1824 well.

Folios 6-9: John Curley, aged 29; disease or hurt, on both legs several unhealthy looking ulcers with irregular edges and the integuments surrounding them are of a livid appearance. Has also on his legs and thighs several small boils and livid blotches. His gums are spongy and bleed upon pressure and is a good deal debilitated. Put on sick list, 29 October 1824. Discharged 3 January 1825 to the hospital at Sydney.

Folios 9-16: Michael Doyle, aged 27, prisoner; disease or hurt, severe pain in the right hypochondrium accompanied with dyspnea and severe cough. Put on sick list, 15 October 1824. Discharged 3 January 1825 to the hospital at Sydney.

Folio 17: William Halfpenny, aged 24, prisoner; disease or hurt, complains of pain in the umbilical region with frequent calls to stool attended with tormina and tenesmus. Put on sick list, 14 October 1824. Discharged 19 October 1824 cured.
