Prisoner name: Larrett Langley (or Larret Langley), proprietor of boarding school at Brampton, Yorkshire.

Court and Date of Trial: York Summer Assizes, July 1839.

Crime: Uttering a forged promissory note for £100.

Initial sentence: 15 years transportation.

Gaoler's Report: Very respectable connections.

Outcome: Nil.

Petitions and letters: Petition from 31 inhabitants of Wath and district, Yorkshire, including the prosecutor, pleading the prisoner's previous good character, with two letters from Lord Fitzwilliam, forwarding letters from Eliza Langley, the prisoner's wife, requesting passage with him, and from the chaplain of York Castle gaol. Petition from the prisoner in Van Diemen's Land, requesting a conditional pardon in order for him to follow his profession, with covering letter from Lord Fitzwilliam and file cover.

Five certificates from inhabitants of Hobart Town testifying to the prisoner's ability as school teacher.
