Description:

Alan Robin NESS and Christian Mary NESS alias HAMP: British. Alan NESS, then a dental student, first came to notice in 1943 as organizer of the Putney branch of the Communist Party and active among students at the Royal Dental Hospital. After a period in the Royal Army Dental Corps he took a post as a researcher at University College London sponsored by the Medical Research Council. In 1952 he married Christian Mary HAMP, an architect who was Secretary of the communist-influenced Architects for Peace and of a joint committee of various peace organisations in the professions. By 1954 she had joined the Communist Party itself
