Administrative / biographical background:

The Industrial and Incomes Policy Division took over the responsibilities of the Department of Economic Affairs industrial policy and industrial assessment, providing the chair for the Industrial Assessment Steering Group. It undertook industrial studies and provided secretaries for various industrial consultative committees. In addition it took over the work of Fiscal and Incomes Policy Division on incomes and prices policy. A special Economic Unit attached to the Division provided economic analyses of industrial problems, providing assistance in such matters to the Agriculture and Trade, and the Public Enterprises Division.
