Julius Robert OPPENHEIMER: American. In 1942 the US authorities were told that Oppenheimer, then working on the atomic bomb project at Los Alamos, was a communist sympathiser. However his security clearance was not withdrawn until 1953. He was officially 'rehabilitated' in 1963
