Details of WO 334
Reference: WO 334
Title: War Office: Army Medical Department: Returns and Reports
Description:

Sick returns and reports submitted to the Army Medical Department of the War Office by army medical officers serving with military hospitals, depots and regiments or other units at home and abroad.

Although primarily intended for the preparation of statistics on disease and the health of the army, some returns, notably the annual death and disability returns, give the names of individuals. A small number of specific reports on yellow fever and delirium tremens are also included as well as a number of sanitary reports for Home and Overseas stations .

Date: 1817-1892
Arrangement:

The dates which occur in the description of a piece usually correspond to the date-range on the spine of the record; this corresponds to the period covered by the majority of returns and reports in the record. The date-range in the date field reflects the presence in the record of some returns and reports covering a wider period.

The reader should also note that not all places or regiments and units which are mentioned in the records appear in the list. Very often the description of each piece mentions either the places or the regiments and units, as was considered most appropriate. For example, West Indian Foot Regiments occur in WO 334/2, 5, 6 etc., and not just in WO 334/34, 46, 68.
