Description:

Captured ship: Nuestra Senora de los Dolores y Animas of Costa Rica (master Tomas Corat).

History: a Spanish merchant ship (110 tons, 17 men, 6 passengers), bound from Callao, Peru to Panama, laden with brandy, wine, olives, leather, silver and jewels; taken on 27 October/6 November 1741 in latitude 4°30' by HMS Gloucester (Matthew Michell commanding) of Anson's squadron, and condemned at sea under a special commission issued to Commodore George Anson's expedition.
