Description:

This series comprises registers from the Judge Advocate General's Office of general courts martial confirmed at home from the end of the eighteenth century. The first register also contains entries for the period 1666 to 1704. There are no registers for the period 1705 to 1805. The series includes some registers of both district and field general courts martial which were compiled in South Africa during the Boer War (pieces 8-10).

The registers of charges give, in tabulated form, the name, rank and regiment of each prisoner, place of trial, nature of the charge and sentence, and cover trials of both officers and other ranks.
