These are records kept by Sir Ian Malcolm, the British Government's senior nominated director on the Board of the Suez Canal Company in Paris from 1919 to 1939. The volumes contain letters from British government departments, the majority from the Foreign Office but with some from the Treasury and Admiralty, together with copies of Sir Ian's letters to London. There are no minutes on the papers; each volume has a list of contents.

The British Government nominated three directors to the Board of the Suez Canal Company. From 1919 to 1939 Sir Ian Malcolm (1868-1944) a former Conservative member of Parliament and the private secretary to Balfour at Versailles, was the senior of these directors, and was based in Paris.
