Administrative / biographical background:

Under the Act 9 & 10 Vic, cap.283, of 27 July 1846, the London & Brighton and the London & Croydon railway companies were consolidated and united to form the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway Company.

Under the Railways (Southern Group) Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 22 December 1922, the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway Company was amalgamated into the Southern Railway Company.
