Robert Saul SHUBE, aliases Saul SHUBE, SOUPE (at birth): British. A cabinet maker by trade, SHUBE joined the Communist Party in 1929 and was recorded during the 1930s as very active (at Party District level) and in industrial affairs (representing the furnishing trades). He visited Moscow in 1930 and 1931, and was named in an alleged letter to the Soviet Embassy in Berlin as an OPGU agent. In 1932 he was said to be doing important work dealing with the London side of the National Hunger March, and was National Secretary of the British Anti-War Council. In September 1947 SHUBE was President of the newly-formed National Union of Furniture Trades Operatives. In 1952 he was elected Assistant General Secretary of NUFTO and may have left the Communist Party
