Title: Ordnance Survey: 1865 Survey of Commons and Open Spaces within 25-Mile Radius of London
Description:

This series consists of replies to a circular letter sent to parish Poor Law officers in Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Middlesex and Surrey, at the request of the House of Commons Select Committee on Forests, Commons and Open Spaces in and around the Metropolis. The returns list forests, commons and open spaces within each parish, together with approximate acreage and other notes. Returns from all the counties, except those from Buckinghamshire, include maps and plans. OS 25/1 is a register of the returns.

Arrangement:

The series is arranged by county, except for OS 25/1. Within each piece, returns are arranged in alphabetical order by parish. The accompanying maps are now stored separately and need to be ordered separately, as explained in the individual piece descriptions.

Maps of commons and open spaces prepared for the House of Commons Select Committee on Forests, Commons and Open Spaces in and around the Metropolis were deposited in the Library of the House of Commons, but no longer appear to survive there.
