Jens PALSSON: Icelandic. PALSSON was wireless operator on a trawler, m/v 'Arctic', used by German Intelligence both to undertake naval reconnaissance and to gather convoy movements and other shipping information in the Atlantic and the North Sea. In 1942 it was seised and its crew arrested in Reykjavik, whereupon PALSSON and his captain confessed their intelligence role. A plan was concocted to use their radio link to the Germans for naval deception purposes, though in the event it was apparently never used. Both seamen were interrogated at camp 020 and detained |
