Description:

This series contains files originating for the most part in the Local Government Board and sometimes continued in the Ministry of Health, containing correspondence with local authorities, joint hospital boards and committees, asylum boards and port sanitary (later port health) authorities relating to administrative and medical aspects of public health, including poor law medical services.

Among the subjects covered are the appointment of medical officers of health and inspectors of nuisances; sanatoria; isolation hospitals; infectious and venereal diseases (otherwise in MH 23); maternity and child welfare; and poor law infirmaries. Most files cover the period 1901 to 1919.
