This series contains correspondence of the Poor Law Administration and Metropolitan Departments relating to Poor Law School Districts and London School Boards. The volumes fall into two distinct groups. The first contains correspondence of the Poor Law Board and the Local Government Board with the Poor Law School Districts relating to the administration and control of district schools, including appointment of managers and administrative, teaching and nursing staff, school inspection, buildings and extensions, loans sanctions, medical services, etc.

The second contains correspondence of the Local Government Board relating to the audit and financial control of London School Board expenditure. Two volumes relate to the celebrated 'Cockerton Case'.
